Old Game Review: Alice
Ravious via Kill Ten Rats on Fri, 21 Nov. 2008
Zubon sent out a call to the blogosphere to shake the dust off the ancient tomes of code and review old games. It was a toss up between two of my favorite oldies: Sacrifice and Alice, and since mpb did a good job old-reviewing Sacrifice that leaves me with…

Warhammer Online NEEDS Darkness Falls
Keen via Keen and Graev's Gaming Bl on Wed, 05 Nov. 2008
The solution to Warhammer Online’s Open RvR problem is simple: Darkness Falls. That’s right, introduce what existed in Dark Age of Camelot into a system that is trying to mimick Dark Age of Camelot. Duh, right? Warhammer Online, back in November 2007, was delayed in order to transform the game to align closer with DAOC’s RvR but it forgot that one crucial element… the PURPOSE. S

Nothing to Think About
Zubon via Kill Ten Rats on Mon, 03 Nov. 2008
I like to think. As the industry moves towards the mass market, meta-game thoughts are becoming less valuable. This is good for the games as games, but I can still miss the returns to planning and the value it held for Exploring game mechanics.
This encompasses all the forms of character-planning, number-crunching, min-maxing, meta-gaming, and other ways you can think about the game me

Whose Garamond is it anyway?
Pascal via KLEPAS.ORG on Fri, 24 Oct. 2008
Flick through various foundry catalogs for a Garamond revival or adaption and you’re bound to discover more than garalde typefaces. I decided to investigate the affair and while doing so swept the dust off a little history of French printing.

Rusty Bucket USA via MotoGPMatters.com | Kropotkin on Mon, 13 Oct. 2008
For those fans of MotoGP who aren't properly afraid of Dorna's desire to imitate Formula One, rather than maintain a superior product, perhaps this news tidbit will shed some light on the road we have feared all along.
Now that Formula One already have spec-tires and spec-ECU's, and now that Dorna are seeking to establish both in MotoGP,

Grind, Baked Right In
Zubon via Kill Ten Rats on Sat, 11 Oct. 2008
Farm status is a horror of gamerdom.
What is the point of grinding anything? Does Naxx get more fun the fifteenth time or something? It only makes sense as a business model that makes people play a long time to get to the end, so you keep them looped in for monthly fees, but then you are also selecting for an audience that has lots of time, and therefore will be logged in more.
